Join us for “Puck Lunch” :: What are you doing for lunch on Friday? Join us on the ice for drop-in hockey on Fridays, starting at noon. We'll play as long as there are enough players to call it a game!
Hello and Goodbye :: We sadly say goodbye to Alex Blake as a member of our Red Lodge Ice board. Alex is spending most of his time in Big Timber these days. Alex, we will miss you and appreciate all your contributions to Red Lodge Ice!
At the same time, we welcome two new board members: Al Bloomer and Nate Davis. Al has been involved in the area of coaching for USA Hockey (the national governing body for ice hockey) for many years and we are happy to be able to tap into his knowledge, resources and expertise! Nate Davis – and his sons Finn and Gable – are recent converts to skating and hockey. Nate has jumped onto the ice with both skates, so to speak, and has a lot of enthusiasm, as well as the ability to get things done!
Kids Having An Ice Time in Red Lodge :: Thanks to the Boys & Girls Club of Red Lodge and their CYAC (Community Youth Athletic Club) Program, 36 kids are learning to skate and/or play hockey this winter! Practices take place on Saturday mornings and Monday afternoons and kids have their choice of taking "Learn-to-Skate" or "Fundamentals of Hockey" classes. Some kids are participating in both!
The emphasis of these programs is to introduce skating and hockey to kids in a fun and safe environment. Most children who are participating have never skated in a structured environment and many had never skated before at all! Feedback from the parents and the kids is very positive, and coaches have been amazed at the progress made in youth skating skills.
Al Bloomer and Nate Davis have been instrumental in providing the leadership for the volunteer ice hockey coaches and Ann Christ and Jane Engebretson have both done an outstanding job with the Learn- to-Skate program. Thanks to everyone involved in this great opportunity for our kids!
